A distribution partnership was announced on Aug. 22 by The a2 Milk Company and Walmart.
a2 Milk will now be available in Walmart stores across New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, Maryland, and Washington DC.
“Achieving distribution with such a powerful and respected retailer like Walmart further validates the a2 Milk brand proposition in the U.S. and marks a critical point in our company’s drive to bring consumers back to dairy by providing our products to the roughly 75 million Americans who report dairy intolerance,” says Blake Waltrip, U.S. CEO of The a2 Milk Company.
The addition of Walmart is the latest in expansion for a2 Milk across the U.S. In January, a2 Milk added nine states in the Northeast to its distribution. A national advertising campaign was started by a2 Milk in March.
“We are thrilled that millions more Americans will now have the opportunity to bring a2 Milk into their homes for their families. Our products offer a natural solution to those people who experience digestive discomfort from dairy and this is the next step of our goal of giving everyone the chance to enjoy the nutritious benefits of real milk,” says Jayne Hrdlicka, global managing director and CEO.
Founded in 2000, a2 Milk is marketed as an alternative to other milks containing the A1 beta-casein protein because it only contains the A2 protein. a2 claims their A1 beta-casein-free milk is easier for consumers to digest.
Ten years ago a2 Milk began selling in Australia. In 2015, a2 Milk was first marketed in the U.S. when it started selling in California.
“The a2 Milk proposition is unique in the dairy industry, and we are looking forward to continuing to spread awareness of the benefits of A1 protein free milk with the first to market brand, a2 Milk,” Waltrip says.
Following the addition of Walmart, a2 Milk can now be found in more than 6,000 retail stores. Other major retail outlets selling a2 Milk include: Wegmans, Stop & Shop, Giant Carlisle, Giant Landover, Whole Foods Market, Market Basket, Sprouts, Safeway, King Soopers, Target, Ralphs, Publix, ShopRite and The Fresh Market.
