Dairy markets took a tumble last week, specifically cheese blocks. Barrel cheese dropped 17 cents to $2.31 per lb. Class III futures were hammered lower to end the week with November milk declining 37 cents to $23.20 per cwt. December was down 74 cents to $18.68.
“Game On” for Gen Z
What do dairy and the video game Minecraft have in common? Dairy Management Incorporated is partnering with the game to help promote dairy products.
It’s an effort to reach younger consumers, also known as the “Gen Z” generation.
The dairy checkoff company is also partnering with four well-known gaming influencers to help spread a positive message about sustainable dairy farming. They are PrestonPlayz, Brianna Playz, Dang Matt Smith and MrBeast. They have a combined reach of over 120-million subscribers on YouTube.
During this promotion, each gamer will be able to visit a dairy farm virtually to learn more about the different sustainability practices farmers use. After the farm visit, the gamers will take what they learned and put it into practice by building their own dairy farm in Minecraft.
This first video, created by gamer Preston Playz, was released October 27th. It received more than 900,000 views and 40,000 likes within the first 48-hours.
