The House Agriculture Committee has finally received an initial budget scoring from the Congressional Budget Office for Foundation for the Future (FFTF). According to the analysis, FFTF would save money over current baseline dairy programs: The dairy price support program, MILC and DEIP.
Because this is just the initial analysis, the House Agriculture Committee is not releasing any details until a final report is issued. However, the numbers are positive enough for FFTF to move forward.
Last month, the Agricultural Leaders of Michigan endorsed FFTF. This is important because it gives “political cover” to Sen. Debbie Stabenow (Dem., Mich.) to move FFTF through the Senate Agriculture Committee, which she chairs. Prior to the Ag Leaders endorsement, Stabenow had been quoted as saying processors did not support the plan and industry unity was needed.
