Put haylage up right

Terry and Sue Van Maanen own Winding Meadows Dairy and milk 650 cows. The freestall operation is located near Rock Valley, Iowa, a rapidly growing dairy area in the northwest part of the state.

Summer’s critical harvest

Stanley and Janice Burkholder, and their son Clint, own Burk-Lea Farms near Chambersburg, Pa. They milk 600 cows and farm 1,250 acres.


Caught in the middle

Dr. Bill Stouder is a veterinarian-turned-dairy producer. At Stouder Holsteins near Jerome, Idaho, he milks 1,900 cows in partnership with his wife and three sons.


Not a buyer’s market

Larry Kamper is a California transplant who manages--and is a partner in--two New Mexico dairies. Together, Queso Grande (Big Cheese) Dairy in Roswell and Shawnee Dairy in nearby Dexter milk 4,400 cows.
