Dairy Report: Mexican Dairy Consumption Poised to Accelerate

Mexico is the largest export market for U.S. dairy, and it's expected to remain that way for a long time.

An analyst for the Daily Dairy Report saying that cheese is a staple of the Mexican diet, but the country has not been able to grow milk production fast enough to meet its growing domestic demand for dairy products. The analyst says the pandemic affected the Mexican economy, especially the tourism sector, and that has slowed U.S. dairy exports to Mexico. But it is believed that as Mexico emerges from the pandemic, dairy consumption appears poised to accelerate. USDA reports Mexican dairy consumption rose 0.5% last year.

 

Purrier St. Pierre Returns Home from the Olympics

Dairy farmer and Olympic competitor "Elle" Purrier St. Pierre is back home and talking about her Olympic experience. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram about competing in the women's 1500-meter race at the Olympics in Tokyo, Ellie says "It's pretty wild that I'm disappointed with being 10th in the world when a few years ago this would have been so far out of reach."

She also shared a picture by her corn crop saying that it felt good to be country again. Purrier St. Pierre grew up on a 40-cow operation in Vermont and is currently living on one with her husband.
