USDA reported this afternoon that June milk production was up 1.1% in the country, which actually continues the slowing of production increases since the first of the year.
Cow numbers in the country are also up 10,000 head over May, reaching an estimated 9.21 million head. Cow numbers are up 81,000 head and the June numbers reflect steady or growing numbers since August of last year.
The West and Southwest continued to grow production, with Texas up 10.3% over a year ago, Colorado up 6.8% and Idaho up 5%.
The Midwest saw milk production decline, with Wisconsin down 1.6% (even though cow numbers were up 4,000), Minnesota down 4.6%, Iowa down 2.9% and Illinois off 3.7%.
