The Wisconsin Farm Bureau has adopted a new set of policy guidelines in the hope they will improve milk prices. Among them: Lower the Federal somatic cell count limit for Grade A milk to 400,000 cells/ml.
“This is policy in support of the concept,” says Casey Langan, WFB spokesperson.
www.wfbf.com/archivej/htmArchive/showPage.aspx The Board did not specify what mechanism would be used—either regulatory action through the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance or through legislation. “We’re more flexible on how to get it addressed,” says Langan.
The Idaho State Department of Agriculture will also propose the SCC limit for raw milk sold to the public be lowered to 500,000 for cow milk (and 750,000 for goat milk) next year. The state standard would remain at 750,000 for milk that is pasteurized. www.capitalpress.com/results/CRD-raw-milk-follow-082809
