Since the article “The Dark Side of Digesters,” [March 2009, page 19] was published, I have realized that there is some confusion by the readers. The article seems to imply that I am dissatisfied with the anaerobic digestion technology vendor Biogas Energy Inc. and that the schedule and budget overruns are their fault. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Biogas Energy’s portion of the project has been on time and on budget, exceeding my expectations in every way. Having seen many biogas systems in the USA, I am convinced that this is the best digester technology and I would highly recommend them to any dairy producer. The schedule delays and cost overruns were directly caused by the regulatory issues we face in California, as the title of the article states.
