Zilmax Extends Marketing Window

Recent studies by Oklahoma State University (OSU) researchers show Zilmax can be withdrawn for up to 10 days without a loss in performance, allowing feedyard managers additional marketing flexibility when feeding Zilmax to market cattle. Zilmax, a feed ingredient that enables a beef animal’s metabolism to more efficiently convert feed to protein, is recommended for use in steers and heifers during the last 20 to 40 days of the feeding period prior to harvest. OSU researchers studied several withdrawal periods for Zilmax and saw consistent carcass weight improvement of 32 lb. after a 3-day withdrawal period and was maintained for at least 10 days after the withdrawal. The 10-day withdrawal period for Zilmax-fed cattle showed a 38 lb. carcass gain advantage. For more information go to www.zilmax.com.
