Advice from an American Ninja Warrior on Becoming Unstoppable
Challenges surface—whether that is from the world around us, our industry, our farm, our family, or even the challenges in our own head. Although dairy farmers are not the kind of people who make excuses. These were the exact words that the keynote speaker of the 20th Anniversary of Milk Business Conference, Alex Weber, said.
“You are the kind of people who buckle down,” Weber, who is an American Ninja Warrior and award-winning entertainer, said.
Weber’s happy-go-lucky personality spoke about his trial-and-error life stories from being a D1 Lacrosse player to hosting American Ninja Warrior, something he would later compete at. The host says that we all have two inner voices—one that pushes us and believes in us and the other where self-doubt lies.
“Our choice is which voice we listen to,” he said.
Weber shared five keys to help unlock the power to become unstoppable.
5 Keys to being unstoppable
- Clear goals. What do you want? “Not every goal that we have needs to be climbing Mount Everest,” he shared. “Some can be as simple as a 60-year-old couple saying they want to enjoy a cup of coffee together more often.”
- Claim. Say your goals are possible. Write them down—on a nightstand, or a fridge door, or as your phone background.
- Commit. Give all that you have. Bet on yourself. Dig deep to hear the positive self-talk.
- Connect. With those that support us, those that cheer us on, and those that rally behind us.
- Choice. Ultimately, we can choose our next steps.
The television hit show, American Ninja Warrior, showcases athletes climbing two stories, hanging by their fingertips and dangling on spinning ropes. If you miss, you crash into ice-cold water with reg light sirens going off.
“We all fail,” he said. “But what you do next decides everything.”
First hired to host this Emmy-Award-winning series, Weber interviewed athletes as well as attempted the course himself, all in good fun, for everyone’s entertainment.
“I was asked to fail,” he said.
In the second season, the producers asked Weber to attempt the courses, but this time being successful.
Fearing that he would fail, he shared that we can’t outwork what is in our head.
“Sometimes we get really sucked into the intensity of a moment,” Weber said.
He also said if you quit on yourself, you have to live with that for the rest of your life.
“Our inner voice becomes our script,” he added.
Nobody wants challenges or difficult moments, but it is nearly impossible to escape hard times. Weber challenges us to see the value in the obstacle presented. He also says that when our why to our goal becomes bigger than ourselves and when we let people in, it allows us to become the best version of ourselves and good things happen.
“We'll always have that choice of whether we wait or whether we commit,” he said.
Be brave, let people into your circle and bet on yourself. When looking back through his life and seasons on American Ninja Warrior, Weber is glad he did just that to become the most unstoppable version of himself.
