Cheese Prices Gain Some Ground

Spot cheese rallied on Thursday in the CME spot dairy auction after an open and closed session yesterday.

Spot cheese rallied on Thursday in the CME spot dairy auction after an open and closed session yesterday. Block cheese added half a penny to $2.16. Barrel cheese gained 1.25 cents to $1.8675. Whey was up a half of a penny to $0.4050. Butter closed unchanged at $2.38. Nonfat milk fell a quarter of a penny to $1.3350.

Class III milk futures were higher on light volume. January milk increased 17 cents to $19.78. February milk leapt 18 cents to $18.75. March through December milk ranges from $18.45 to $20.20. Class IV was unchanged with no volume trading.

The grain markets were a mixed bag. March corn dropped 3.25 cents to $6.7950. March soybeans added 2 cents to $15.1625. March soybean meal decreased $2.80 to $458.50/ton. March Chicago Wheat tumbled 11.50 cents to $7.74.

Livestock markets varied on the day. February live cattle jumped $1.05 to $158.85. January feeder cattle settled 32 cents higher to $183.80. February lean hogs declined $2.12 to $88.67. February crude oil was down 30 cents to $78.66.
