A ‘Snow Day’ for Milk Prices

As the snow blows into the Midwest, dairy has another quiet day but shows some green.

As the snow blows into the Midwest, dairy has another quiet day but shows some green. The CME spot trade was mixed. Butter fell 1 ½ cents on 13 trades to $1.27 ¾, Cheddar Blocks fell 2 ¼ cents to $1.53 1/2 on 5 loads moving and Barrels gained 3 ¼ cents to $1.44 ½ with 1 load finding a new home.

Grade A non Fat Dry milk gave back 2 cents to $1.09/lb and Dry Whey held unchanged at $0.53/lb with no loads trading hands

Class III gained momentum as the day traded. February fell 4 to $15.54, March fell 2 to $16.01, and April gained 3 cents to $16.37/cwt. The balance of 2021 traded 8 lower to 5 higher.

Class IV followed butter lower. February fell 27 cents to $13.23, March fell 17 to $13.77, and April fell 17 to $14.45

The grain complex is losing steam as we sit near the top of recent highs. Corn fell 2 cents t 5.50 even, Soybeans gained 1 ¼ cents to $13.72 ¼, Soybean meal fell $2.40 to $433.10/ton.
