2010 Dairy Cow Slaughter Down Slightly

Just 8,100 fewer dairy cows sent to slaughter in 2010.

U.S. dairy producers sent 2,807,200 dairy cows to slaughter through federally inspected facilities in 2010, down just 8,100 head compared to 2009. That’s almost a rounding error, at 0.28%.

Total red meat production was also down slightly in 2010, but much of that decline came in hogs, sheep and lambs, and veal slaughter.
