U.S. dairy producers sent 2,807,200 dairy cows to slaughter through federally inspected facilities in 2010, down just 8,100 head compared to 2009. That’s almost a rounding error, at 0.28%.
Total red meat production was also down slightly in 2010, but much of that decline came in hogs, sheep and lambs, and veal slaughter.
