Belgians Dump Milk

Belgian dairy farmers dumped more than 6.5 million lb. of milk yesterday in a protest over low milk prices, reports the Associated Press.

The farmers spread the milk on farm fields, using some 300 manure tankers. Belgium milk prices currently range from about $12/cwt to $16. But the AP reports breakeven prices are closer to $26/cwt.

Not all European Union dairy farmers are supporting the milk strike, but the president of the European Milk Board says up to half the dairy farmers in some areas are dumping the milk.
