A commercial distributed by Arla Foods as part of a $30 million marketing campaign is now at the heart of a lawsuit by Eli Lilly and its subsidiary Elanco.
Paperwork filed by drug-maker Elanco argues Arla is ignoring the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) declaration that rBST is safe and there’s no discernable difference between the milk from cows supplemented with rBST and those that aren’t.
The latest Arla commercial includes that language in small type at the bottom of the screen. Elanco sells rBST under the brand name “Posilac.”
Elanco says the campaign and product labeling perpetuates false claims about rBST and makes it sound like rBST is an actual ingredient in milk.
The suit is calling for Arla to stop its advertising campaign.
