Patrick Doyle, CEO of Domino’s Pizza, announced yesterday at Dairy Today’s Elite Producer Business Conference that his company was making a $1 million contribution to the GENYOUth Foundation.

The Foundation was established to fight childhood obesity. Its flagship program is the “Fuel Up to Play 60” initiative that brings healthy eating and 60 minutes of exercise to U.S. schools. The National Football League, and all 32 professional teams, are involved in the initiative along with many of the major players in the dairy industry, including the National Dairy Council, Domino’s, Kraft, Leprino, Lala USA and Quaker Oats.

As part of the nutrition initiative, Domino’s has introduced its “Smart Slice” pizza, which is the only pizza that currently meets USDA guidelines for school pizza. When introduced to feeding lines in schools, pizza consumption increases 25%, says Doyle. That results in 23% more cheese being consumed, and in 2010, some 29 million more pounds of cheese.
