Wisconsin Dairy Unofficially Sets World’s Longest String Cheese Record

Weyauwega Star Dairy has unofficially broke its own record for the world’s longest piece of string cheese at 3,832 feet.

Weyauwega Star Dairy, located in Weyauwega, Wis., has unofficially broke its own record for the world’s longest piece of string cheese at 3,832 feet. To get the job done, the dairy needed the help of nearly 1,700 town residents to hold the cheese. The cheese was strung from person to person for about three blocks and then doubled back the way it came. After 90 minutes, the record was broken with a nearly ¾-mile-long piece of string cheese, according to the Associated Press.

The Knaus family has owned Weyauwega Star Dairy since 1975. Knaus’ father, Jim Knaus, set the previous world record for the longest piece of string cheese in 1995, with the string cheese measuring 2,000 feet long, according to the Post Crescent. Master cheese maker Gerard Knaus says the massive piece of cheese weighs approximately 500 lb. In comparison, the 3,832 feet equates to nearly 30,000 individual cheese sticks.
