California Class 1 milk price rises but lags behind other regions

California‘s average minimum Class 1 price for July 2008 has reached $22.63/cwt., up sharply from June’s $20.37 and May’s $18.92, reports the Dairy Marketing Branch of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

Despite the higher level, California‘s price lags behind Federal Order minimum Class 1 averages in other regions, according to numbers published in the July 2008 issue of CDFA’s “California Dairy Review.”

In the Phoenix, Ariz., region, July’s average minimum Class 1 price rose to $23.13/cwt. over June’s $20.53; the Portland, Ore., average increased to $22.68 from June’s $20.08, and Boston‘s price climbed to $24.03/cwt. from June’s $21.43.
