15 Unique June Dairy Month Activities

( )

The calendar has officially flipped over to June, which can only mean one thing – it’s National Dairy Month! Since 1939, National Dairy Month has encouraged families to make milk their beverage of choice based on its nutritional value.

Dairy’s rich history continues with communities, companies and people from across the U.S. observing National Dairy Month in a variety of ways. While hosting a farm tour is a great way to interact with consumers, it’s also been done before. If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate this year, consider the following 15 ideas:

  1. Dairy Trivia Night - Planning to hang out with some friends this summer? Why not host a dairy trivia night?! Let’s see who really knows their dairy facts.

  2. Wine and Dine - What pairs better than cheese and wine?! Reach out to your local winery and hand out free cheese samples. Consider throwing in a few dairy/cheese fact brochures. Better yet, host a wine and cheese night on your farm!

  3. Local News - Have the local newspaper or news station visit your farm and conduct a “Day in the Life” feature.

  4. Little League Snacks – Summer is full of little league baseball and softball games. Why not bring string cheese and chocolate milk as post-game snacks?

  5. Donate Books – Donate farm books to your local library, and volunteer to read a book or two aloud while you’re there.

  6. Ice Cream Social – Host an ice cream night on the farm or at your local community center. Want to make it extra memorable? Learn to make your own ice cream!

  7. Cow Pie Bingo – Want to raise money for a local food bank or other organization? Why not host a cow pie bingo fundraiser on the farm?!

  8. Dairy Daycare – Have a local daycare nearby? Invite them on over! Help them experience, first-hand, what your day-to-day life looks like on the farm. Be prepared for lots of fun questions!

  9. Milk Mustache Photo Contest – Who doesn’t love a good milk mustache? Why not show them off?! Try conducting a milk mustache photo contest on your farm’s Facebook page.

  10. Ag Olympics Day – Show off your summer muscles by hosting an Ag Olympics Day! From pedal tractor races to pin the tail on the cow, everyone loves a little farm-filled fun. Need some contest ideas? Check out these 60 hilarious games.

  11. Hay Bale Decorating Contest – Want to have a little competition between local businesses in your community? Why not have a hay bale decorating contest? Give each business a hay bale and have them decorate it as a cow or  other dairy theme. Consider making this a fundraiser opportunity for a local food bank.

  12. Moo-vie Night on the Farm – Everyone loves a good movie night, but have you ever hosted one on the farm? Consider projecting a movie on the side your barn! Bonus points if you hand out free cheesy popcorn. Yum!

  13. Dairy 5K – Want to stay in shape this summer? Why not organize a 5k race with a dairy theme? Be sure to hand out chocolate milk or string cheese at the finish line!

  14. Grilled Cheese Cook Off – Grilled cheese sandwiches are a summer staple. But let’s admit it, they can sometimes be a little boring. Why not jazz them up? Bring a group of friends over and have a grilled cheese night in your kitchen. Get creative with the ingredients as well as the variety of cheeses! #ChefsKiss

  15. Share the “Life of a Cow” – Do you have a favorite cow on the farm? Why not share what her day is like on social media? Consider taking lots of pictures or videos of “Bessie,” then share those images on social media. You just might be surprised by how many people follow along!
