Dairy Welfare Webinars Slated

The Dairy Cattle Welfare Council is planning two educational webinars in December – one in English and the other in Spanish.

The Dairy Cattle Welfare Council (DCWC) will host two webinars in December, aiming to broaden animal welfare knowledge among dairy managers and employees.

The free, one-hour events will take place virtually. Recordings also will be archived on the DCWC website for active members. The planned events include:

  • “Soluciones para optimizar el consumo de materia seca en vacas lecheras en transición” (“Solutions to optimize dry matter intake in dairy cows in transition”)
    • Presented in Spanish by Dr. Gustavo Schuenemann, The Ohio State University
    • December 14, 2022
    • 5:00 p.m. EDT

  • “Cow welfare in Irish pasture-based systems of milk production”
    • Presented in English by Dr. Laura Boyle, TEAGASC Agriculture and Food Development Authority, Ireland
    • December 15, 2022
    • 5:00 p.m. EDT

DCWC webinars are developed for audiences that include dairy farmers and employees, veterinarians, consultants, industry, extension/academia, and government representatives. Continuing education credits are available for active DCWC members.

The organization also has announced that its 2023 Dairy Cattle Welfare Symposium will be held May 17-18, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas. For more information on DCWC membership and programming, visit www.dcwcouncil.org.
