A new, animal-welfare-promoting animal health tool now is benefitting 4-H members as well.

Solvet has announced an arrangement with the National 4-H Council to donate 5 cents to the organization for the sale of each unit of its LidoBandTM product. LidoBand is a latex castration band impregnated with lidocaine, providing slow-release pain medication to the tissue in the application area.

LidoBand is designed to address the pain and discomfort associated with castration in calves under 250 pounds and lambs under 50 pounds. The pain mitigation it confers starts two hours after application and lasts for up to 42 days.

Regarding the support of 4-H, SOLVET officials said the relationship “aims to support the valuable work of 4-H, a program that empowers young people with enduring life skills, to grow the next generation of innovative leaders.” They called the partnership “a significant step toward ensuring a brighter future for animal agriculture across the nation.”

Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Solvet launched LidoBand in the U.S. and Canada in 2023. The company points to LidoBand as an example of its “innovation by request” business model, in which it develops products by listening to consumers and producing solutions in response.
