Improved Small Square Bale Line from Case IH

An AgWeb.com Farm Equipment Special Case IH is introducing its new SB Series of small square balers, replacing the earlier SBX models. Four new Case IH SB Series Small Square Baler models, will include:

* SB521 – 14” by 18” bales
* SB531 – 14” by 18” bales
* SB541 – 14” by 18” bales
* SB551 – 16” by 18” bales

“Growers appreciate the ruggedness and durability of Case IH Small Square Balers,” says Krista Knigge, Case IH hay and forage marketing manager. “The modifications Case IH engineers made to these newly redesigned balers continue this legacy, and yet make maintenance and serviceability even simpler.”

According to the company’s new product announcement, improvements to these balers include a fresh new design to plunger and feeder shielding that improves access to many of the key service points. A redesigned flip-up front gearbox shield allows for easier service of the main drive chain and gearbox. There is also an improved side shield opening for easier access points on the plunger.

In addition, Case IH has improved access to the pickup drive belt. The knotter drive gear casting now has the sheave on the outside, so the knotter clutch gear does not have to be removed to service the belt.

They say “Power Pivot” shielding also has been redesigned using hydraulic hose slots for convenience, as well as to help protect hydraulic hose ends from collecting dirt and debris.

The SB541 and SB551 models come standard with an eight-twine bale box. They have larger capacity twin storage that allows for longer baling duration without rethreading to increase productivity in the field.

Another improvement to the SB541 and SB551 models is increased tongue channel thickness and reinforced plates on the inner tongue wall. “This new design reduces stress 29 percent compared to the previous design,” says Knigge.
