Land O’Lakes announced this week it will close its Madison, Wis. butter plant within the next 60 days.
“Closing the Madison dairy facility was a difficult decision that was driven by the economics of the business,” says Steve Dunphy, LOL chief operating officer of the Dairy Foods Value Added business. All 120 employees will be affected by the closure.
LOL has not decided what it will do with the physical plant or property. Other LOL butter plants will increase production to compensate for the lost capacity once the Madison plant is shuttered.
