May Dairy Cow Slaughter Still Up

Year to date, slaughter numbers are up 7.3%.

The United States Department of Agriculture reported today that dairy cows moving through federally inspected slaughter plants totaled 220,000 head in May, up 11,000 from a year ago.


The May numbers, however, were 18,000 head fewer than April 2011. Year-to-date, 84,000 more cows have been slaughtered than January through May, 2010—a 7.3% increase.
