DMI has created three Web sites. The first is dairyresponse.com and is for dairy producers. Objective: Provide information to help producers communicate about animal health issues such as foot-and-mouth disease, BSE (mad cow disease), Johne’s disease and biosecurity.

A second site, password-protected, has been created for dairy industry communicators. In the event of a crisis, the site would be updated in real time to provide situation updates, key messages and media reports so communicators can relay accurate, consistent messaging on the crisis.

The industry has also created an Internet “black site” that will go live only if a crisis occurs. It will provide the media and the public with up-to-date information on the crisis along with actions that the public should be taking to protect health and remain safe.
