Police say a 21-year-old woman has been charged with driving her vehicle while using her mobile phone after she drove into a herd of cows crossing a rural upstate New York road.
Police in the Orange County town of Mount Hope tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that Daisy Cowit of Wawayanda, N.Y., was distracted by her cellphone when her sport utility vehicle hit six cows crossing a road at a dairy farm on Oct. 28.
All the cows survived, but three suffered serious injuries.
Police say she nearly struck two farm workers walking across the road.
In addition to the distracted driving ticket, Cowit was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and reckless driving.
She told police she only looked at her phone to check who an incoming call was coming from.
