Canada’s largest dairy processor, Saputo Inc., announced yesterday it will acquire the activities of F&A Dairy of California, Inc.
F&A manufactures, sells and distributes mozzarella, provolone and whey products from its facility in Newman, Calif., where it employs 113 employees. In 2008, it produced approximately 60 million pounds of cheese and had sales of about $140 million.
The acquisition is expected to close on or about July 20, 2009.
Saputo acquired Wisconsin’s Alto Dairy Cooperative last year.
Saputo is the 11th largest dairy processor in the world and among the top three U.S. cheese producers. The publicly traded company produces, markets and distributes a wide array of products, including cheese, fluid milk, yogurt, dairy ingredients and snack-cakes.
