The Food and Drug Administration is apparently making good on its threat to increase surveillance and enforcement of dairy farms which ship cattle in violation of drug residue limits.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Saturday that FDA has notified 30 dairy farms nationwide of violations, requiring each farm to submit detailed plans on how it will correction management to prevent future violations. Two of the farms were in Minnesota: Evergreen Acres Dairy LLC, Paynesville, and J&L Dairy,Clarissa.
Evergreen was cited October 9, 2009 for administering 11 different drugs “contrary to the conditions of use set forth in their approved labeling, and you did so without the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.” J&L Dairy was cited August 28, 2009 for misusing penicillin G procaine.
