The IDF World Dairy Summit 2025 promises to be an influential event, centered around the theme of “Nourishing a Sustainable World.” Set against the vibrant backdrop of Santiago, Chile, this conference is a must-attend for those involved in the dairy industry. Attending on behalf of Farm Journal, I aim to explore the diverse challenges and opportunities that dairy farmers across the globe are facing.

A Diverse Dairy Landscape

Chile, a country with a dynamic dairy sector, is home to around 6,000 milk producers. Annually, these producers yield approximately 2.2 billion liters of milk from 500,000 dairy cows. The sector is distinguished by its contrasts, with an average milk yield per cow just shy of 4,500 liters. Notably, Chile also boasts the largest robotic dairy farm globally, with 5,800 cows milked by 90 robots, highlighting the integration of technology in dairy farming.

Boosting Dairy Consumption

The country’s commitment to enhancing dairy consumption is noteworthy. With a population of around 20 million, a significant portion of milk produced is consumed domestically, and dairy products such as flavored yogurts are particularly popular among consumers. This trend underscores the successful efforts to boost local dairy consumption through innovation and diversity in dairy products.

Global Trade and Strategic Partnerships

Chile’s role as a signatory of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) places it strategically on the global trade stage. This agreement, also recognized as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), underscores Chile’s commitment to international trade and offers potential growth opportunities for its dairy sector on a global scale.

As we converge in Santiago for the summit, these aspects of Chile’s dairy landscape offer valuable insights into the future direction of global dairy production and consumption. It’s an exciting time to be part of such a transformative era in the dairy industry. Continue to follow me along this week as I explore local dairy farms and attend this elite dairy event.
