2011 Dairy Cow Slaughter Up 4.2%

September culling was up 4,000 head over a year ago (1.6%) and 2,000 head higher than August.

Dairy cow slaughter through Federally-inspected plants continues to run well above last year. Through September, cow slaughter totaled 2.156 million head, up 86,000 year-to-date from last year, or 4.2%.


The United States Department of Agriculture also reports this morning that September culling was up 4,000 head over a year ago (1.6%) and 2,000 head higher than August.
