A widely used dairy management software program is celebrating a big birthday in 2023. DairyComp, founded by VAS, is marking its 40th year in business.
VAS bills DairyComp as “the world’s most powerful dairy herd management tool.” Since its inception in 1983, adoption of DairyComp and its companion programs have grown steadily. Today, more than 15 million dairy animals worldwide are managed through its multi-faceted platform.
Over the course of 40 years, DairyComp has evolved from a single-herd recordkeeping system to a consultative tool for entire dairy management teams. The software now features sharing capabilities that all producers to grant access to their data to trusted nutritionists, veterinarians, genetics companies, milk processors, pharmaceutical firms, and lenders.
Relationships also have been forged with industry collaborators, so DairyComp data can be integrated with activity and health monitoring; genomic testing; parlor integration, and milk recording. DairyComp even allows the transfer of animals from farm to calf ranch and back, or between multi-site farms.
The latest enhancements to DairyComp include the launch of HealthVAL, which shows real-time costs of herd events; and OneView, which helps farms managing multiple dairy locations to rapidly and accurately analyze inventory, monitor historic trends, and create projections.
“Dairy farming has evolved from making decisions based on hunches to data-driving decisions with DairyComp,” said Steve Eicker, VAS co-founder. “It has helped countless dairy managers and employees make real-time decisions to complete the right tasks at the right time for the right cows.”
