Shamrock Foods to Open California Facility

A dairy supplier will open a distribution center early next year in a large, vacant Natomas warehouse, bringing jobs to the region and perhaps brighter times for the industrial market, the Sacramento Business Journal has reported.

Phoenix-based Shamrock Foods, a family-owned company founded decades ago in Tucson, Ariz., is now in “the initial planning phase of establishing a facility in Sacramento,” company spokeswoman Ann Ocana said. “While final details are still being determined, our ultimate goal is opening this facility in 2011.”

The company could not provide an estimate of new jobs as plans for the 150,000-square-foot distribution center are not finalized.

The lease is an example of a rarity lately for commercial real estate — absorption. That’s the term for space that’s used up through expansion or relocation of new businesses to the area.
