69th Iowa Dairy Princess Crowned
In Iowa’s capitol, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, the 69th Iowa Dairy Princess was crowned on Wednesday evening. The 2022-23 Iowa goodwill ambassador is Naomi Scott, a 19-year-old from Westgate, the daughter of Mike and Kathleen Scott. She was also named Miss Congeniality in the contest.
Scott, a sophomore at Kaskaskia College, is studying agriculture science. She will make public appearances all year long, connecting with consumers to help them understand the commitment, dedication and strong work ethic dairy farmers have to their cows, land and the milk they produce.
The Iowa Dairy Princess Alternate will assist Scott in sharing princess duties. Emily Manweiler, 18-year-old took home that crown. She represented the Iowa Jersey Cattle Club and will be a senior at New Hampton High School.
Another candidate that was recognized was Haily Backer, 18, for her performance in the public speaking portion of the contest. She is the daughter of Benjamin and Jennifer Backer of Greene and represented Butler County.
Seven candidates competed for the Iowa Dairy Princess title, with the judging held Aug. 9 and 10 in Ankeny. The winners were selected based on an application, answers to essay questions, interview and public speaking skills, professionalism and ability to advocate for dairy farmers.
Raegan Kime, the daughter of Dann and Annette Kim of Waucoma stepped down as the outgoing 2021-22 Iowa Dairy Princess. Hillary Burken, daughter of Marty Burken, Susan O’Neil, and Dan and Lisa Lofquist of Clinton also stepped down with her title as the Alternate Princess. Their reigns will be completed at the end of the month and the new Princess and Alternate will begin their duties on Sept. 1.
