In Pursuit of Excellence Dairy Today “most improved” publication

For the second time in four years, Dairy Today magazine was awarded the James Flanagan Award for most improved publication by the Livestock Publications Council.

The award was presented last month at the Agricultural Media Summit in Fort Worth, Texas.

“Dairy Today has done a marvelous job of incorporating its Web site into the new design,” wrote the judges. “Recognizing the importance of the Internet is on-target and forward-thinking. ‘Follow the dot’ is a great way to bring readers of all ages into the new millennium.… The new design is refreshingly clean.”

The magazine also won eight other awards. Four were for first place:

In-depth reporting—"Awash in Milk,” by Catherine Merlo, on California’s surplus milk production.

Production/management article—"Kiwis a-Comin’,” by Jim Dickrell, on the explosive growth of New Zealand-type grazing operations in Missouri.

Regular column—Dairy Talk columns by Jim Dickrell.

Event show program—2008 World Dairy Expo Official Program by Lisa Behnke and the Dairy Today production team.

Second-place awards were for technical article (“Taking Credit,” by Catherine Merlo) and eNewsletter (eUpdate by Jim Dickrell, Rick Lundquist, Robin Schmahl and the Dairy Today team). Honorable mention awards were won for overall general excellence (Dairy Today editorial team) and editorial (“Resist Temptation,” by Jim Dickrell).
