The area was hit especially hard by historic rains on Friday. It is home to several feedyards, with owners and operators trying to assess the number of cows lost due to flood waters rising so quickly.

It’s not the news dairy producers want to hear, but one analyst says the outlook for milk prices according to the futures market is not very good.

A few dairies have pushed pause on building projects due to interest rates and market uncertainties. Others are stuck in limbo not knowing whether to move forward or wait it out.

The best way for producers to improve feed efficiency and lower costs is to increase forage quality.
