PETA Proposes Billboard Comparing Dairy Calves to Migrant Children

Separating immigrant families at the border and removing calves from dairy cows are one in the same according to one of the country’s largest animal rights groups. ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals )

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) plans to run a billboard near the U.S.-Mexico border comparing the separation of immigrant families to milking dairy cows.

The animal rights organization announced on July 2 plans to build a billboard near several cities along the border with an image of a Holstein cow and calf next to the slogan “Loving Mothers and Their Children Should Never Be Separated. Please Go Vegan.” Border cities where the campaign will run include San Ysidro, Calif. and Tucson, Ariz.

PETA is trying to capitalize on the controversial family separation policy implemented by the Trump Administration that has made headlines the past few weeks and had a wide outcry around the country. The animal rights group alleges that taking a calf from a dairy cow to produce milk is the same as separating families.

“It’s cruel to separate any parent from her beloved child,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “We are heartsick over the trauma that families are experiencing at the border and hope people will extend their compassion to mother cows whose calves are stolen from them on dairy farms by switching to soy and other plant-derived milks.”

This isn’t the first time PETA has put up billboards revolving around the topic of immigration. In April, PETA placed billboards near the border towns of El Paso and Laredo, Texas, criticizing Donald Trump, Jr. for hunting and his father’s remarks on immigrants. That advertisement said “Deport Callous Cheating Opportunists Now!” and also said “All nations have their undesirables. Kindness welcome.”

The animal rights group has also used accidents involving livestock as a way to promote a vegan diet. Since the start of June PETA has announced plans to build billboards near the sites of trailer wrecks or barn fires in Ohio, Delaware, Washington and Georgia. Last November, a wreck that killed 80 cattle in Utah got similar billboard treatment.

In addition to the billboards at the border, PETA has also donated soy milk to the Humanitarian Respite Center (HRC) in McAllen, Texas. The animal rights group says the donation was made to the detention center for immigrant children “who have allergies, are lactose intolerant, or are vegan.”

“Dairy-free milks and ice creams are a delicious option for anyone who is lactose intolerant, is vegan, or simply wants to practice kindness to mother cows and their calves,” says PETA Latino Senior Manager Alicia Aguayo. “PETA hopes to help the Humanitarian Respite Center give a bit of relief to families who have made an extremely difficult journey.”

In June, PETA ran an “Anti-Dairy Month” campaign that included “de-calf” coffee sleeves and bus advertisements.

Funny enough, most of the people I know of working the farms and separating cows and calves are illegal immigrants. So I'm not sure who the target audience for this campaign is...ignorant bleeding hearts?

....so, Just a Farmer, if you know farms employing illegal immigrants, why don't you turn them into Immigration....it is against the law to employ illegal aliens, and those that do are subject to prosecution and penalties.....just ask Dennis Burke, a Michigan dairy with 3500 cows and employing illegals.....immigration came down on him with a 1.34 million dollar fine and a two year jail sentence.....let's not stop here.... ICE should go after all the rest of the lawbreakers.....all the farmers that run their dairies with an illegal workforce have stolen prosperity from all those farms that abide by the law....

I'm just another wage slave. These guys work hard, pay taxes, and put most of their earnings back into our local economy. They are friends and neighbors who came out of some hard times to make something of themselves, unlike all my fat American neighbors on welfare who do nothing to contribute to the community. As long as no one is committing violent crimes, I literally don't care because I don't feel the need to punish the little guy just to get a stab at the big guy. I'll leave those judgements up to God. I hope that answers your question.

Real talk of sleeping ox.
For Peta should be more concerned with the abandoned animals on the streets than the heifers who are separated from the mothers are well cared for by the successors.
As for soy, tell me how a milking is performed on her so she can milk?

.....let's not allow activists to humanize our animals....

Sorry but no this is truly sickening that they want to exploit this very real tragic issue to push their own agenda. Shows you the type of people they truly are. The meat industry is not comparable to the holocaust and the dairy industry is not comparable to what is happening to these families being ripped apart. Discusting

We are dairy farmers from NYS. Are you kidding me that we can compare children and baby calves as the same issue. Why dont you do something about all the innocent children that are murdered everyday through abortions. How about mothers that want to dispose of their children and not be responsible for their choices about getting pregnant, Now there is an issue that would keep you busy for a long time.
