Holstein springer prices were all over the board in the past month, ranging from a low of $500 per head for medium-quality heifers in Wisconsin, to a high of $1,575 for top-quality springers in Pennsylvania. New Holland Stables in Pennsylvania described their July bred heifer market as “unevenly steady with moderated demand and light supply.” Tepid milk-price forecasts and the largest national dairy herd size in more than 25 years will likely put downward pressure on replacement values in the months ahead.
