Data from a recent Dairy Herd Management Pulse Poll discovered that dairy producers are most interested in investing in robotic milking systems. In fact, more than half of the respondents (61%) noted that they would install milking robots before other farm technology (39%).

In a tight race for second place, feed management software edged out automated calf feeders by a mere 1%, coming in at 13% and 12% respectively. Herd management software, such as rumination collars and RFID technology garnered 10% of votes while milk quality robotics such as automated teat sprayers only accounted for 4%.

Of the 108 respondents, most were located in the Midwest, but the East Coast was represented as well.

When it comes to technology, everyone wants to know who the winners and the losers are. What brings a producer benefit? What doesn’t? Unfortunately, there’s no right or wrong answer. The one thing we do know is that technology is constantly changing the way dairy producers manage their cows and business.
