Disaster Assistance for Livestock Producers

USDA is reminding livestock producers that Federal assistance may be available to compensate for weather-related death and other losses.

USDA is reminding livestock producers that Federal assistance may be available to compensate for weather-related death and other losses.

“We need producers to document the number and kind of livestock that have died as a direct result of these winter storms and timely notify their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office of these losses,” says Jonathon Coppess, USDA FSA Administrator. “There may be situations where producers are transporting feed to their livestock. Producers should document these additional costs.”

To be eligible for livestock death losses under the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), producers must file a notice of loss within 30 days from when the loss is apparent to the producer. For a fact sheet on LIP, click here.

Coppess also encourages producers who need hay or have hay to sell to post ads on Hay Net.
