A North Smithfield farm has been named Rhode Island's Outstanding Dairy Farm of the Year.

Wright's Dairy Farm was chosen for the honor by the agricultural offices and farm organizations that make up the Rhode Island Green Pastures Committee. The state Department of Environmental Management announced the winner Thursday.

Winning dairy farmers from each New England state will be honored at an awards banquet in September in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Wright's Dairy Farm is a fifth-generation family farm celebrating 100 years in business. It also sells bakery products.

DEM Director Janet Coit said the farm is an institution for many Rhode Islanders.
