Dairy in Our DNA
World Dairy Expo (WDE) is an event designed to appeal to dairy producers and dairy enthusiasts of all kinds. For many, the major draw of WDE is the opportunity to get up close and personal with more than 2,500 top-quality dairy cattle, representing seven major dairy breeds, all gathered in one place.
For others, the chance to interact with companies and organizations exhibiting in WDE’s unmatched, dairy-specific Trade Show is the major lure. Another draw is the opportunity to learn from the industry’s best and brightest leaders featured at Expo Seminars and Virtual Farm Tours (held throughout the week in the Exhibition Hall), the chance to interact informally with other dairy producers from across the world and
much more.
While the motivations for coming here are as different as the individual Expo-goers, there appears to be a common thread among everyone who passes through the gates at this five-day, world-class event. They all share a deeply seated love for the dairy industry. Our contention is that this love isn’t something consciously crafted or developed by individuals. Instead, we think it has its roots somewhere in collective genetic make-up. Simply put: it lays somewhere in our DNA.
Consider the many families that have developed a solid, multiple-generational track record of successfully competing in the WDE Showring. These families vary by geography, herd size, breed of choice and numerous other factors. What binds them together is a strong sense of tradition and a passion for developing and promoting the finest dairy cattle on the planet.
How else can you explain it other than to say, “It’s something in the DNA.” Consider the more than 800 companies participating in the WDE Trade Show. There’s plenty of diversity in the makeup of these organizations. Some are based in the U.S.; others are from different countries from around the globe. Some are multi-billion dollar, large-cap entities, while others are small startups.
The common component among the companies is a sincere desire to bring the newest and best products, services and concepts to dairy farmers. In “Threads of Success,” two exhibitors, The Coburn Company, Inc., and Kamar Products, Inc., have been adjusting their presence in the Trade Show over several decades in order to better serve their customers.
In “Who Do You Think You Are?” you’ll hear from dairy cattle breeders about three amazing dairy cows (with long-time links to the WDE Showring) that have risen to the rank of icon within their respective breeds.
There are numerous examples of the DNA link to WDE enthusiasm. In “From Young On,” three high-profile leaders from different sectors of the dairy industry explain how taking part in WDE at a young age played a major role in shaping their highly successful careers.
While you’re at the 2015 World Dairy Expo, expect to encounter people from all over the globe and all segments of the dairy industry. Our guess is as you interact with those you meet here, you’ll start to recognize you share a common bond with them. During these interactions, don’t be surprised if you often get a feeling that you are looking into a mirror at someone very much like yourself, someone with a keen interest in and passion for the dairy business. After all, it’s rooted somewhere in their DNA, just like it’s rooted in yours.
