Dairy Cow Culling Picks Up in September
Dairy farmers sent 14,100 more dairies cows to hamburger heaven in September compared to last year, an increase of 5.9%, reports the United States Department of Agriculture.
September culling was up 26,400 head over August as well. Year-to-date, some 83,000 more cows have been culled this year compared to last, an increase of 4%.
The numbers kinda/sorta fit with Tuesday's milk production report for September. Total cow numbers were down some 5,000 head.
