At 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time, SAE Afikim USA officially opened for business here at its first-ever North American dealer meeting in Salt Lake City.
“This is our first day of operation, our first day of sales and our first day of service,” announced Joe Bleau, Afimilk USA director.
Afimilk has severed its ties with DeLaval in marketing and servicing Afikim equipment here in North America, although DeLaval will continue to work with its existing customers. DeLaval will continue to be a non-exclusive dealer for Afikim.
Afikim made the decision to separate from DeLaval so that it could work with its customers directly, says Ronen Zexes, CEO of Afimilk based in Israel. “Our intention is to increase market share by giving better service.”
Afikim specializes in high-tech interfaces on the dairy farm, including milk meters, milk analyzers which can measure fat, protein and somatic cells on an individual cow basis, pedometers, scales and sort gates. It also has software interfaces to help manage the herd itself.
The text of the release:
The Israeli company S.A.E. Afikim (brand name afimilk) – and now S.A.E. Afikim USA, Inc. (afimilk USA) has announced that it is setting up an independent business to serve the North America dairy farmers. AFIMILK is a worldwide market leader in management technologies for milk production and dairy cow management.
Previously the afimilk technologies were distributed by DeLaval, Inc. and the offering can still be obtained via DeLaval, Inc.
After 20 years of selling in North America, afimilk already have thousands of users in North America but we came to the conclusion that a different strategy is required to fully exploit the potential of the North American market. Worldwide, the US dairy industry is being considered industry leading and for a company like afimilk, success in this market is key to both financial benefit locally, but also important to further establish the leadership role in the field of dairy management technology globally.
afimilk believes that to be successful in this business, the company has to provide close support to the customers. The afimilk technology is groundbreaking in nature and education of the users critical to success. This level of support is difficult to provide via a traditional distributor like DeLaval and it was deemed necessary to create a local on-the-ground organization to offer the support which will make the technology widely used and fully utilized for the benefit of the individual customer.
The afimilk technology is designed to provide the management tools for maximum milk production, good reproductive performance (no calves, no milk!) and to monitor the good health of the cows. The dairy industry world-wide is under pressure to become more efficient and to become better guardians of the environment. afimilk was designed over decades to provide the tools to make the most possible milk from the least amount of cows, thus providing maximum payback to the farmer while stressing the resources, cows and environment the least.
The afimilk USA company established a logistics center in the US to ensure proper support and back up of spare parts and will employ local, experienced dairy professionals from the US dairy industry while providing in-depth knowhow and support from the mother company in Israel. That the technology is out of Israel is no coincidence. The Israeli dairy cows are the highest producing in the world, even though the local environmental factor, high heat, no water etc. are some of the most difficult anywhere milk is produced in volume.
The Israeli dairy industry has over the years been forced by local factors, to become the most economically efficient and the results are all based on better utilization of technologies. afimilk (and afimilk USA) are key factors in making milk production the most efficient and the least stressful to the animals and to the environment.
