$9 Million Stray Voltage Settlement Upheld in Minnesota

The Minnesota Court of Appeals has upheld a $9 million settlement in a stray voltage case on a now defunct 400-cow dairy farm in the northwest corner of the state.

Randall Norman, Pine River, Minn., was awarded what would eventually become $9 million in a stray voltage case that dates back to 1994, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.  The settlement was awarded in 2012, and was appealed by the plaintiff, Crow Wing Cooperative Power & Light Co.

The Appeals Court ruled that the district trial judge in the case made an error when instructing the jurors, but found that the error did not prejudice the case. The power company has not yet decided whether to appeal the case to the Minnesota Supreme Court.
