NNE Delegation, Others, Call for Dairy Supports
All six of northern New England's U.S. senators and the three Democrats from the region in the U.S. House are calling for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use all of the tools at its disposal to help struggling dairy farmers.
They joined more than 50 other House and Senate members decrying a steep decline in the prices farmers are getting for milk.
The lawmakers are asking for the USDA to use its existing authorities to expand and maintain U.S. domestic markets, encourage the domestic consumption of dairy products, and help dairy farmers through this financial crisis.
They point to prices farmers get for their milk dropping 40 percent since 2014, saying that means farmers can't meet their expenses.
