Dairy Today magazine and its website, www.DairyToday.com, won 10 writing awards in competitions this summer, more than the combined awards of all of its competitors.

Catherine Merlo won two first-place awards in the Livestock Publications Council writing contest. One was in the Marketing Article category for "The Road to Risk Management" (December 2011). She also placed first in the Instructional Story category for "Before Bankruptcy Hits" (April 2011).
The 2011 World Dairy Expo Official Program received a first-place award in the Event/Show Program category. The World Dairy Expo Official Program is produced and published by Dairy Today staff.

Merlo won a second-place award in the News Story category for "Colorado Wants You!" (January 2011). Jim Dickrell won second place in the In-depth Reporting, Multiple Article Series category for his coverage of the National Milk Producers Federation’s farm bill package, Foundation for the Future, in the June/July 2011 issue.

The magazine also won honorable mention recognition for general excellence and for its website,
www.DairyToday.com.

In the American Agricultural Editors’ Association contest, the magazine won three second-place awards. Dairy Today’s website came in second to www.agweb.com, which is Farm Journal Media’s main web portal.

Merlo won second place in Breaking News for her Feb. 23, 2012, web story "Exports Are Ripe Opportunity for U.S. Dairy," and Dickrell won second place in Human Interest for "Cheese. Cows. Wows!" (January 2012).
