The Indiana State Fair, in partnership with the American Dairy Association of Indiana (ADAI), has declared the 2012 fair to be the "Year of Dairy Cows." Today's announcement means dairy cows will be featured prominently at next year's fair through special exhibits, events and activities.

"This is a great opportunity for us to remind people of the important role the dairy industry plays in our everyday lives," ADAI General Manager Deb Osza said. "Multiple daily servings of low-fat milk anddairy foods are essential to a healthy diet, and the State Fair willallow us to present that message to thousands of Hoosiers in a memorable way."

Indiana is home to more than 1,500 dairy farms that produce more than 3 billion pounds of milk each year. The state also ranks second in the country in production of ice cream.
